Pineapple Crush Organic Alpine Strawberry
Quart Size 4-plant pack
Fragaria vesca (OP seed grown)
Pineapple Crush is a more recent selection of the pale yellow alpine strawberry.
The seed line has been developed and maintained by the Strawberry Seed Store in Delaware for many years (thank you Michael Wellik!!), and we are proud to offer this great cultivar for sale. Pineapple Crush has a very high yield for an alpine, with excellent sweetness and strawberry aroma you can smell as you lean down to pick the berries. Size of berry is larger than any of the other yellow fruited cultivars. This has been an enjoyable cultivar the past 4 years on our farm, and I have been able to watch it grow and produce. Given enough space, it will yield copious amounts of alpine strawberries for many years.
USDA hardiness zones 4-9

Alpine Strawberry Seeds
Alpine strawberry seeds are our top selling type of strawberry seed. The scientific name of this type of strawberry is Fragaria vesca ssp vesca forma semperflorens. These non runnering, clumping types of strawberries that are day neutral. Their growth involves sending out underground stolons which increase the clump size. As the clumps expand the plant has more potential for production. Each stolon is capable of sending up a flower stalk. Thus, the more stolons the more potential flower stalks and thus more potential fruit. Day neutral means that day length does not affect that plant’s ability to flower. As long as conditions are favorable (environmental conditions like temperature and other conditions such as soil pH and fertility) the plants will rebloom.
What we call strawberry seeds are not actually seeds. They are more properly called achenes. We won’t get into saving strawberry seeds here except to mention that to maintain purity cross pollination with other selections or other diploid species should not be allowed.
To successfully germinate alpine strawberry seeds you should follow have a slightly acid media that is kep moist constantly during the germination process. The seed should not be covered and should be exposed to light because it aids germination. It can take 30 days or more for all viable seeds to germinate. Ideal germination temperatures should be in the range of 60 to 75 degrees F. To optimize germination freeze the seed for at least 4 weeks before sowing to precondition it. Seed should kept frozen for long term storage.
