Patterning Weed Edges

One key to successful fall fishing on natural lakes is targeting the edges of thick, green weedbeds. You can spot these edges where the vegetation grows almost to the surface. In deeper areas, use your sonar to find thicker clumps of grass. Cast or pitch softbaits or jigs to the edge where a wall of weeds meets open water. Largemouth bass cruise these edges looking for prey and strike lures that fall into this zone. If you don’t get a bite as the lure lands, give it a shake and wait for a reaction. If nothing happens, reel in and cast again.

One of the better weededges we have dived for a while, lots of species to spear and plenty of action. Tarakihi can be very inquisitive, although very common in the south of NZ. As spearos we do not encounter as … Ещё frequently as we go north. They become more common in deep water. Good areas to look for them in the north are on Weed edges normally in fishing spots with current. Lots of Porae are a good sign as you will find the Tarakihi like to hang out with them. Some techniques below that will help capturing tarakihi in the north (also can apply down south).

– Lie flat on the Bottom, the flatter you are on the bottom the less intimidating you seem to the fish. Become a stingray! haha
